The US still has the strongest military in the world by a long shot

But we’re coming off a 20 year war in Iraq and Afghanistan. We do have lots of well trained veterans. But there has never been a pleasant solution for how to respond if Russian/Soviet tanks roll across the plains of Europe. Once you could hope they run out of gas before they get to the Fulda gap, but now the Russians are the one with a pipeline.
